When you fill out a mortgage application, you’ll be asked to provide all of the addresses you’ve lived at for the past seven years. Why does this matter?
Lenders want to make sure you will pay your mortgage on time every month, so they will look into how you paid on past mortgages or rental agreements. They’ll need canceled checks or a verification letter from the landlord or mortgage lender. This information – as well as your credit report – gives the lender a written record of your past housing payments.
